Catching Up - What Have I Been Up Too

What happened to the last 3 months?!  To say it has been a busy summer has been an understatement.  Hopefully more blogs coming in September for some cools things I'm working on but here is a recap of the last few months.

I've also been generating a lot of content over the summer, too much to list here.  Go check out my blog on Tech Target as well as the latest episodes of the Cloudcast and Mobilecast.  Thanks again for coming by!

April Recap

My trend of posting monthly recaps a few days late continues...  Sorry about that, hopefully the May recap will be on-time.  I was traveling most of April so the blogs this month tend to reflect that.

I'll start with the Cloudcast (.net) for the month of April.  We published a record number of episodes. A HUGE thanks to both Amy Lewis and Brian Katz for their amazing contributions!  Amy did a fantastic job as roving reporter and Brian's Mobilecast is really taking off!  As always, please send us any show feedback, we love to hear from you!

Next up is my new TechTarget Blog, you have subscribed with your latest Google Reader replacement, right??  I'm really having a good time writing over there.  This site (aarondelp.com) has always been more hands on and live blogs from events but the interest in the latest trends around Open Clouds and the operational aspects of cloud computing has been both great and humbling.  Thank you to everyone who has taken the time to read the articles and provide feedback!

The only blogging I was able to do on my site this month is Live Blogs from the AWS event.  Here are all of them.

Help the Cloudcast Give Back!

In case you haven't already heard on our podcast, the Cloudcast (.net) is raising money for the North Carolina Children's Home.  We're doing it in a slightly unusual way, by running the Krispy Kreme Challenge.  We'll be taking video, maybe wearing costumes, eating lots of doughnuts, and hopefully keeping them all down.  If you would like to support us head on over to our page and we will match any donation!!  Check out the video below from last year's race to check out the craziness.  Thank you!!!

This Month on the Cloudcast (.NET)

Another month has come and gone at the Cloudcast (.NET).  November was a great month for content.  We managed to get in a number of podcasts, produced some new You Tube videos, attended the AWS re:Invent conference, and we announced we will once again be running the Krispy Kreme Challenge to raise money for the North Carolina Children's Home.  If you like the show, please consider sending a donation here (we will match donations!)  Thank you!

  • Episode #62 - Jesse Andrews stopped by and he was awesome to talk to about the current state of OpenStack and some great info on both the Folsom and Grizzly releases.  As a side note Jesse and I finally got to meet face to face last week at the AWS conference, awesome dude!
  • Episode #63 - James Watters from VMware gave us the low down on VMware's Cloud Foundry PaaS and updates since we last spoke to Dave McCrory awhile back.
  • Episode #64 - Cloudcast alum Raejeanne Skillern gave us an update on Intel and the recent Intel Developer Forum.
  • Episode #64.5 - Brian and Aaron take a break to talk about what we're thankful for (hint: our listeners) as well as announce our pledge to not only raise money for the Krispy Kreme Challenge, we will match all donations for the first $1000!
  • Episode #65 - Aaron catches up with Mat Ellis from Cloudability at the AWS re:Invent conference and Matt breaks out the number one reason why you could be a "cloud noob".
  • Episode #66 - Another AWS re:Invent episode, this one with Solomon from dotCloud. Solomon was great to talk too and I really feel his company is brining some unique features into the PaaS space.

This Month on the Cloudcast (.NET)

Another great month for the Cloudcast (.NET) podcast.  Here is a summary:

  • Episode #58 - The Cloudcast's first ever live round table discussion at Build a Cloud Day. I thought it went very well and you can hardly tell where I edited us getting kicked out of the room (saved for the bloopers show)
  • Episode #59 - Luke from PuppetLabs. Personally I think one of the best interviews we've ever done.  Luke was great to talk to and really knows his stuff.  The conversation went some places I didn't expect but overall awesome quality and always good to have Nick riding shotgun.
  • Episode #61 - Justin from Basho. The concept of NoSQL scale out databases is new to me and I learned a TON on this show. Justin did a great job explaining some of the nuts and bolts of databases and cloud storage.
First one to spot our mistake this month gets a prize...

New Cloudcast (.NET) with Randy Bias - OpenStack & OpenClouds

Cloudcast (.NET) #35 - Cover Your *aaS - Cover Your Costs

I'm a little late posting this as I was on vacation when this was recorded and released.  Brian was able to sit down with Mat Ellis,  CEO of Cloudability, to discuss aspects of billing and costs in cloud computing.  It was great to hear Mat discuss the business aspects of cloud and find out how to get a FREE Cloudability account!

Cloudcast (.NET) - Episode 34 - New Networks for the Cloud

Brian and I had the awesome privilege of speaking with Ivan Pepelnjak on Friday about how we see networks in Cloud Computing evolving in the next few years.  We rolled up our sleeves and talked about OpenFlow and SDN (Software-Defined Networking) and many other great topics.  It was great fun and I learned a lot from Ivan.  If you go to the show notes page you will see a BUNCH of helpful links so rather than recreate them all here, go over there and take a look!

Also, here are some other links I used to prepare for the show.  As always, feedback welcome!

New Cloudcast: Live from CA World with Andi Mann

This morning we posted a new The Cloudcast (.net) podcast with Andi Mann, VP of Strategic Solutions at CA Technologies.  Andi sat down with us last night at CA World and we had a great discussion around the state of public and private cloud in the enterprise and how that relates to virtualization trends in the market today.  Fascinating conversation (if I do say so myself) and worth a listen.

The Cloudcast (.NET) LIVE from VMworld!

This was SOOOOO  cool!  VMware asked us to do a Cloudcast (.NET) podcast live form VMworld!  This is what we're like without editing!  Our guests were Chris Colotti from VMware and Mike Foley from RSA.  Check out this link for the show notes and more information.  I also embedded the video here.

My only comment, it's much harder to do this when you don't have a beer in your hand, there's lights in your face, and your laptop with all the questions is sitting over in the corner!  All in all, it turned out really well and Mike and Chris were GREAT!

The Cloudcast (.NET) LIVE at VMworld Talking vCloud & Security

This is so cool.  We've been asked to bring the Cloudcast (.NET) to VMworld!

On Monday 8/29 @ 2:00 we'll be broadcasting the Clouldcast LIVE as part of VMware's Community TV. This will be our first time live as well as our first time on video.  The chances of this being a train wreck are pretty good!

We've decided on guests and a topic.  Mike Foley from RSA and Chris Colotti from Vmware have agreed to join us to discuss vCloud Director Updates & Security.  If you're around, stop by!

New Cloudcast (.NET) with Dell "Cloudy Folks!"

Brain and I were fortunate enough to get some time with some great folks from Dell's cloud organization this weekend on The Cloudcast (.NET).  We sat down with Joseph George, Rob Hirschfield & Aurelian Dumitru.  They are flying under the radar and getting it done.  Very impressive!  Here's a link to the Podcast for more information.  Enjoy!

As a side note, Aurelian didn't get the time he deserves and in hindsight, we really should have done this as two separate podcasts.  To make it up to "A.D." we're going to do exactly that.  Look for more Hadoop goodness in September!

Thanks for listening!

New Cloudcast (.net) - Isaac Roth with Red Hat's OpenShift

Just posted a very cool new Cloudcast today.  This week we spent time learning about Red Hat's new PaaS offering, OpenShift.  The interview turned out great and Brian and I learned a lot.  Details and Show Notes are on the Cloudcast website.

A little bit of inside baseball: Editing Podcasts are a complete bitch.  I'm serious, it just sucks.  That has probably been a major hold up to us getting things out the door.  In this episode we did less editing to see how it would sound.  Let us know what you think.  We're trying to turn them around quicker so we can spend more time recording and less time editing.

Have a good weekend everybody!
