NetApp ONTAP 8 (7 Mode Administration) Part 3

This is a little late but here are my notes from the last 2 days of the class. The highlights here are around the upgrade process and how it will be different going forward.

  • Snap reclaimable is not an option is Systems Manager (yet). You can still do snap reclaimable in FilerView and the command line
  • Quotas are now in Systems Manager 1.1
  • Dedupe doesn't need a nearstore license anymore, it is a separate product now
  • To upgrade from 7.3 to 8.0, you need to use the .zip file. Going forward for clean installs and upgrades post 8.0 the ONTAP files will be in a .tgz format. The ability to handle .tgz files has been added to ONTAP 8.0
  • The size of the root volume has increased. The volume now needs 2GB (1GB for the OS and 1GB for swap) instead of 200ish MB for 7.3 today. Make sure the root vol has at least 2GB free prior to the upgrade
  • The software install command is being deprecated in favor of software update command
That's about it. I have to give a big thank you to NetApp for inviting me to attend the pilot course!
